Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl flooring is a very popular choice of flooring material for kitchens and bathrooms, primarily because of the ease with which it can be cleaned and its resilience to moisture.

However, thanks to its bright colours and patterns – not to mention its ability to mimic tiled and wooden floors – vinyl flooring is no longer limited to just bathrooms and kitchens and can be utilised throughout the home. From bedrooms and children’s playrooms to dinning rooms and even the lounge, vinyl flooring has never been more fashionable.

Vinyl is made from a plastic known as PVC – polyvinyl chlorinate. Due to the environmental impact – not least that it’s hard to recycle, there are non-PVC environmentally friendly alternatives available which are beginning to be used as direct substitutes for PVC vinyl.

Vinyl has many benefits

Ideal for wet areas and easy to maintain, if you’re looking for stylish and affordable flooring and want an alternative to carpets or laminate flooring then vinyl could meet all your requirements. The benefits include:

  • It’s available in a multitude of styles and patterns, such as plain, diamond, key diamond, wood effect, mosaic effect and tile effect.
  • It’s waterproof and easy to keep clean.
  • Vinyl is tough and resistant to wear and tear. Therefore it’s ideal for areas of heavy traffic.
  • It’s very affordable and is a cost-effect alternative to more expensive flooring such as hardwood flooring and tiles.
  • Some ranges are available with added slip resistance and anti-bacterial treatment.

Because it forms an impermeable layer and is highly durable, vinyl flooring will not swell, stain or rot after having something spilt on it. It is also hard to scratch and does not hold dirt or mess and that means it is easy to clean. Popular manufacturers include Domo, Beauflor, Tarkett, Armstrong, Leolan and Gerflor. Most offer a number of warranties covering 20 to 30 years or even in certain cases a lifetime guarantee.

Wood effect vinyl flooring

Many vinyl floor products are patterned with a wood effect with different finishes including oak, elm, hazel, bamboo, beech and walnut. Oak tends to be the most common and popular among wood finishes, but there is also a ‘bracken’ finish as well which might be quite unusual but is certainly worth thinking about if you want something a little different.

Other finishes include ivory, slate and stone as well as various tiling effects. Vinyl can be purchased in planks, tiles or in multi width sheets.

Whatever your flooring needs, we have a range of flooring specialists who can supply and fit vinyl flooring to transform your home.
